Spirit of Error

Spirit of Error

Have you ever believed a lie? How did that feel? How do you know you aren’t in the grips of the spirit of error now?

People who are blinded by the spirit of error do not know it! If they did, they would not be bound by its deception.

We have no reason to fear except the fear of the Lord; in this is wisdom. Please do not read this article with fear; rather, trust God that He will reveal any lies.

Error: noun

  1. a deviation from accuracy or correctness; a mistake, as in action or speech:
  2. belief in something untrue; the holding of mistaken opinions.

Tricky Sticky

Taking on the spirit of error and withstanding its seduction while exposing its roots will require:

  • Determination
  • Fruit of the Spirit
  • A Love for truth
  • A hatred for deception

We don’t have to be afraid we are living in error; we just need to be willing to see any error if He reveals its presence.

In my book, The Spirit of Error, I share how to recognize its sticky ways so that we can do our best not to be encumbered by its trickiness.   This article covers chapter one with the addition of a few extra notes.

1 Timothy 41-2

1 Now the Spirit expressly says that in latter times some will depart from the faith, giving heed to deceiving spirits and doctrines of demons, 2 Speaking lies in hypocrisy, having their own conscience seared with a hot iron, NKJV

What is the Spirit of Error?

Error is the one that almost got me. It ruined my reputation, embarrassed my family, confused my friends, robbed me of my passion, lifted me up, and then spit me out like a flavorless piece of gum. Error is relentless, cruel, and blinding.

When I think of all I have been through, I believe the spirit of error produced the most emotional pain for me and those around me.

The Story Line I Hated

The 1998 movie, The Truman Show, starring Jim Carrey, had an unforgettable plot. Carrey’s character didn’t know his life was being produced. From his birth to adulthood, his whole life was carefully planned and broadcast. He was the star of a reality TV show and didn’t even know it.

The character fully believed his scripted life was real. He was in error. When the lies began to unravel, and he started to fight his way to freedom, it was like the truth was a dream.

After he knew the truth, he could see where reality had been trying to peek its way through the error over the years.

According to Strong’s concordance, the word error can be swapped out with the words: deceive, deceit, and delusion.

Historical figures like Hitler, Kim Il-Sung, Charles Manson, Queen Mary 1 of England, and Jim Jones are famous for their error and delusions.

Bible figures in the spirit of error include:

  • In 1 Samuel 23:17-18, King Saul’s son, Jonathan, confesses his belief that his father would not harm his best friend, David. He was wrong.
  • Acts 19:35 records the error of the entire city of Ephesus. Error can work in one person but can spread quickly to a nation.
  • Revelation 12:9 prophesies that Satan will eventually deceive the whole world.
  • One of the deadliest capers of error is recorded in Number 16 with the rebellion of Korah.

The Pain of Escaping the Spirit of Error

One of the reasons coming out of error is so traumatic is because it produces overwhelming feelings of:

FearShameIdentity loss
AngerBetrayalSelf-Distrust
GuiltConfusionSelf-Condemnation

Many who find themselves in error aren’t people who want to be deceived or want to deceive others. Often, they are justice seekers who champion their errors and stand firm against opposition.

For those coming out of error’s delusion, the pain is excruciating. Imagine the horror of discovering everything you’ve laid your life down for wasn’t real.

1 John 4:6

We are of God. He who knows God hears us; he who is not of God does not hear us. By this we know the spirit of truth and the spirit of error. NKJV

Error is living a lie while blind to the truth. It is thinking what is wrong is right. Error is pride doped up on the adrenaline of false beliefs.

The Error That Nearly Got Me

Error is the one that almost got me. It ruined my reputation, embarrassed my family, confused my friends, robbed me of my passion, lifted me up, and then spit me out like a flavorless piece of gum. Error is relentless, cruel, and blinding.

When I think of all I have been through, I believe the spirit of error produced the most emotional pain for me and those around me.

Don’t stop. Seek out the Lord to be set free! Be as aggressive in getting rid of this unwanted invader as it was to trap you into deception!
